Peer-Based Social Learning

Social skill development is one of the most common and impactful areas of need for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other neurodevelopmental differences. Challenges may include difficulty with interpreting social cues, maintaining eye contact, engaging in reciprocal play, understanding social pragmatics, taking another’s perspective, making inferences, and sharing enjoyment with others. These skills are essential not only for friendships and emotional connection but also for participation in school, family, and community life.

At Lifespan ABA Inc., we offer structured Social Skills Groups that are designed to meet children where they are developmentally, while promoting progress in key areas of social-emotional functioning. Our groups are organized by age and skill level and are facilitated by a Licensed Analyst who brings clinical expertise and an evidence-based curriculum to guide instruction.

What sets our program apart is the integration of both neurodivergent and neurotypical peers. These mixed-peer environments provide rich opportunities for learning and growth in a natural, supportive setting. Neurotypical peers serve as social models, while neurodivergent participants have the chance to learn from both adult-guided instruction and peer interaction. With appropriate coaching and facilitation by the BCBA, all children benefit from increased engagement, shared experiences, and inclusive play-based learning.

Key focus areas include:

  • Turn-taking and reciprocal conversation
  • Cooperative play and group games
  • Emotional regulation and perspective-taking
  • Understanding and using nonverbal communication
  • Making and maintaining friendships
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution

By embedding social instruction within naturalistic and enjoyable peer interactions, we help children build real-world social-communication skills in a structured and affirming environment. These groups not only support skill development but also foster confidence, connection, and a genuine sense of belonging.
